PANAJI: The Russian girl, found dead on Goa's railway tracks, had left for Mumbai without her passport, police said.
This aspect has intrigued Goa police who are now probing as to how the foreign national tried to travel such a long distance without such an important document.
"No foreigner would leave to other destination without passport. We, ourselves, are investigating why she left without it. It also gives rise to the possibility that she may not have even left for Mumbai," a senior police officer said.
19-year-old Elena Sukhanova's mutilated body was found three kilometres away from Thivim railway station on May 08.
Goa police had initially expressed the possibility of accidental fall, but later are investigating the death from homicidal angle.
According to police, the Russian teenager had left back passport amongst around 139 things in her room at the hotel -- Travellers Inn at Baga.
Police officials, who avoided commenting officially on the issue, said that they have also found a mobile charger in her baggage left in the hotel room. Elena was carrying her mobile and police claim that she had even clicked a photograph of a goods wagon passing Thivim railway station few hours before her death.
